Job Summary and Qualifications
Provides education, planning and support regarding patient specific plan of care. This person serves as a first point of contact for care at the Heart and Spine hospital which includes but is not limited to education regarding their care and/or procedural services plan. Follows through on patients’ needs through coordination of services during PAT.
- Perform direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, with emphasis on the in-patient and out-patient Day Surgery service line.
- Perform pre-op patient calls to drive patient education and overall satisfaction
- Complete patient pre-operative testing,
- Point of Care Testing and lab draws as needed for preoperative testing
- Use therapeutic communication in daily practice
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic Pre-Operative environment
- Implement and direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual Day Surgery patients
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process
- Provide emotional support of the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding healthcare
- Delegate tasks to the appropriate caregiver
- Participate in Day Surgery specific initiatives and process improvement
- Provide training of PAT nurse responsibilities and processes to new employees, such as patient care assistants, vocational nurses, nurse technicians, RN Residents and/or nurse externs
- Maintain high quality (age specific) care for patients, as assigned
- Support the mission, vision and values of the organization
- Other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
- If hired after 6/1/12, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position
- Adult Acute care experience at least one-year procedural or care navigation experience preferred
- Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact license
- Current AHA or ARC BLS provider
- Current AHA or ARC ACLS required within one year of hire or transfer
