The Orthopedic Clinic LPN provides clinical support to the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee by assessing clinic patients and recording accurate medical history, providing care to patients such as wound care/suture removal, coordinating referrals for other medical services, identifying abnormal patient symptoms and communicating critical information to the physician, triages phone calls/patient messages in a timely manner, maintains cleanliness of exam rooms and keeps them stocked, assists the physician with office procedures, and accurately documents in EMR.
Position Requirements
- Earned a nursing diploma or degree from a college or university
- Licensed by the State of Tennessee as an LPN.
- At least one year of experience in medical office environment.
- Orthopedic experience preferred, but not required.
- Must be competent in patient assessment, taking vital signs, intake of medical history, confirming medications, suture removal, splint removal, wound care, use of EMR, strong customer service skills, team player, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Key Results
- Accurately records patient's medical history, medications and vital signs. Documents patient care, education, and results in EMR.
- Removes sutures, splints, provides wound care, gives intramuscular injections, and assists physician with office procedures.
- Triages phone calls and addresses patient message basket in a timely manner.
- Identifies abnormal patient symptoms and communicates critical information to the physician in a timely manner, facilitating communication between physician and patient.
- Coordinates referrals to other medical services such as MRIs, procedures, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. Secures consultations and specialists when indicated.
- Observes universal precautions. Adheres to departmental policies related to safety, infection control, and biohazard waste.
- Reviews upcoming appointments in advance, ensuring test results and necessary information required for patient visit is available.
- Works well in a team environment; eager to help others and covers other clinics when indicated.
- Participates in activities that improve department effectiveness, processes, communication, and/or image in the organization. This includes attending 75% of all staff / departmental meetings.
- Keeps exam rooms stocked and clean; notifies materials management when supplies are low.
- Proficient in entering billing, orders, and other relevant patient information in EMR.
- Observes proper lifting technique.
