What We Offer:
As a Certified Surgical Technologist, you will work under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. This role ensures that the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. You will apply expertise in sterile and aseptic technique while utilizing knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and advanced tools and technologies to support physicians in performing invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
What We're Looking For:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D – Operating Room Specialist)
- Online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted
Experience:
- Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred
- Refer to the Life Support Training Policy NH-HR-3096
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Surgical Tech Certification (CST, TS-C, NRCST, or SA-C) preferred
- Current Surgical Tech Certification required based on state specific regulations (South Carolina Region Only)
Additional Skills/Requirements:
- For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or do not have certification, certification is recommended within 12 months of hire
- Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing
- Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills
What You'll Do:
- Work under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to support safe and effective surgical procedures
- Ensure operating room readiness, including equipment functionality and sterile environment
- Apply sterile and aseptic techniques to support surgical procedures
- Assist physicians during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Patient Care: Assists with patient care while complying with Novant Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards. Maintains clinical and professional surgical services competencies and assists in maintaining the security of medications.
- Communication: Practices effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Physical Tasks: Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves. Sets up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications or solutions needed for procedures. Performs counts per policy. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants, assists with draping the sterile field, passes instruments during procedures, and maintains the highest standard of sterile technique. Prepares sterile dressings, cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization, assists with room cleaning, and prepares the room for the next patient.
