Preferred QualificationsRole Purpose
The Supv, Perfusionist – BJH position provides cardiopulmonary and mechanical circulatory support for a large number of patients with emphasis on complex procedures including support for heart failure and non-cardiac procedures and level 1 trauma support. Provides leadership in the planning, organizing, staffing, directing, controlling and evaluating of perfusion services, as well as requires to perform all responsibilities of a BJH Staff Perfusionist.
Responsibilities
Manages BJH perfusionists including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of the BJH perfusionists meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.Supervises the operation, monitoring and maintaining of the heart-lung machine and extracorporeal units used during procedures requiring circulatory support, including the use of ECMO and implantable ventricular assist devices.Effectively and efficiently assembles and disassembles equipment and circuit components as needed and checks and troubleshoots equipment used for cardiopulmonary support, ECMO, as well as variety of ventricular assist devices as required. Manages inventory and orders necessary supplies so the unit is ready for use at all times.Participates in the development of department staffing, education and skilled in training and support of staff in use of a variety of heart failure ventricular support devices, transplants (heart, lung, liver) as well as, handling high dose chemo therapeutic cases, aortic dissections and aneurysms and the support for clinical trials and investigational devices.Directs and ensures the delivery of safe, appropriate patient care through effective leadership skills. Monitors 24/7 call staff schedule which includes emergent cases sent to BJH hospital from regional hospitals.
