Summary:
Performs all vascular ultrasounds; Produces images of the arteries and veins to show hemodynamics and function via vascular ultrasound. Vascular images are digitally acquired, and measurements obtained. Ensures patient safety through procedure protocols and policies. Clinical and technical expert in the field of vascular sonography. Demonstrates increasing level of excellence through clinical practice, teaching/mentoring abilities, and leadership qualities. Serve as a resource and mentor for vascular technologist. May be assigned as a technical lead, quality coordinator, technical lab director.

Responsibilities:
*Advanced to expert skill level in vascular sonography and continuously improving expert skill level and perform more complex examinations.
*Continues to advance and evolve their technical knowledge in their field.
*Lead Tech: Work with the sonographer team to ensure efficient patient flow for inpatient and outpatient as well as any issues that arise that pertain to vascular ultrasound as needed.
*Quality Coordinator Manage quality assessment of all vascular exams and sonographers, as assigned.
*Technical lab director; manage the IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) accreditation along with all required data, as assigned.
* Maintain daily operation of the lab as needed.
*Acts as resource person for staff.
*Serves on various committees for the lab.
*Assist the supervisor with coordinating the Quality Assurance programs.
*Assists the supervisor with IAC case management and review.
*Performs other lead/resource assignments with guidance from supervisor or manager.
*May participate with research protocols in the vascular lab.
*Assist supervisor with updating the policy and procedures manual, annually.
*Assist supervisor with annually updating department vascular scanning protocols.
*Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.
*Assist supervisor with maintaining requirements for hospital/departmental and specialty area(s) competencies.
*Recognize, fully evaluate, and document any abnormalities or anomalies in vascular exams.
*Knowledge in Joint Commission regulations pertaining to the lab and assist in AMP audits.
*Requires expert knowledge of vascular anatomy, pathophysiology, and principles of ultrasound. Applying independent judgement during the exam to determine the need for any additional imaging enhancement.
*Demonstrates expert knowledge and understanding of the practice of vascular sonography.
*Exhibits critical thinking skills with the ability to recognize, analyze and resolve problems to ensure completion of performed exam.
*Performs all routine vascular exams for evaluation of possible abnormal vascular defects or disease -inpatient or outpatient.
*Perform OR cases and assist the vascular surgeon as needed.
*Assist with standard vascular exams.
*Assists with more advanced vascular exams.
*Interview and provide input for potential sonographer candidates.
*Trains and mentor new staff and students.
*Accurately completes charges for all exams performed in the EHR system as well as initiate and assign the preliminary report in PACS.
*Maintain and submit required data for Quality Assurance as well as IAC cases.
*Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops, and publications.
* Available for call on a monthly rotational basis.
* Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infections disease, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
*Maintains and documents communications with physician and nursing units regarding test results.
*Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient¿s ability to understand.
*Function as a team member to organize and prioritize responsibilities to complete daily work requirements.
*Participates in and endorses the established PHS Policies and Procedures and guest relations programs.
*Knowledge in Joint Commission regulations pertaining to the lab.
*Performs other duties and functions as required.
Qualifications:
*High School Diploma/GED is required.
*Graduate of a two (2) year Allied Health Training Program, Ultrasound Technology preferred
*Bachelors program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing) or graduate of an accredited program in general ultrasound (vascular) preferred
*5-10 years of experience in inpatient/outpatient vascular ultrasound and complete and exhibit excellent competencies as a level III.
*New Mexico State Licensure under the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program (NMRTT)
*Current BLS required.
*Required: ARDMS (RVT) /CCI (RVS) credential.
