Position Summary: The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for managing and overseeing various financial activities within Maplewood Senior Living. You play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing financial analysis and guidance.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and review financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Lead or assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights into financial performance, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and forecasting.
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and compliance with regulations.
- Coordinate and manage financial audits, both internal and external, and ensure timely responses to audit requests and findings.
- Reconcile complex accounts and resolve discrepancies, ensuring that all accounts are accurate and up to date.
- Manage and maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules and asset tracking.
- Assist in tax compliance, including preparing and filing tax returns, reconciling tax accounts, and providing support for tax audits.
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate financial planning.
- Utilize financial software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to record, process, and analyze financial transactions.
- Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies in accounting procedures and workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and management, to provide financial guidance and support for business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and standards, and assist in updating policies as needed.
- Train and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
- Contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned
Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required. A master's degree or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred.
- Several years of progressive experience in accounting, including experience in roles of increasing responsibility. Experience as a Staff Accountant or similar position required.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret financial data and provide valuable insights.
- Proficiency in accounting software, financial modeling, and spreadsheet tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel). Familiarity with ERP systems preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders and collaborate across departments.
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Effective leadership skills to manage and mentor junior accounting staff.
- High ethical standards and integrity when handling financial transactions and sensitive data.
- Ability to adapt to changing financial regulations and industry trends.
