About the role
As a Dryer Furnace Operator, you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Dryer Island and associated equipment at our Bastrop production facility.
This is a hands-on industrial role where you’ll operate equipment, monitor plant performance, complete preventive maintenance activities, troubleshoot operational issues, and support day-to-day production. You’ll also have opportunities to expand your skills through cross-training in other plant roles and Dryer Island control-room operations.
What you’ll do
- Safely operate and monitor the Dryer Island and associated production equipment.
- Monitor gauges and HMI interfaces, making operational adjustments when needed.
- Use daily checklists and complete assigned preventive maintenance to help maintain optimal drying performance.
- Operate loaders, forklifts, manlifts, and other mobile equipment.
- Work alongside the maintenance team to troubleshoot equipment and operational issues while continuing to develop your electrical and mechanical skills.
- Complete production logs, work instructions, and other required documentation accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure designated areas remain clear of safety hazards.
- Complete and maintain required safety certifications and equipment qualifications.
- Train with shift control-room operators and work toward qualification as a backup Dryer Island control-room operator.
- Cross-train in additional plant roles, including control-room, chipper, and log-crane operations.
- Anticipate and respond to operational conditions, including adjustments related to weather and other circumstances.
- Approach equipment failures and operational challenges with a continuous-improvement mindset.
- Work with supervisors to identify opportunities to improve operating efficiency and control costs.
- Build productive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other internal and external partners.
- Share knowledge and expertise with others while taking ownership of your own development.
- Support a strong health, safety, and environmental culture by following established policies, practices, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of industrial experience.
- Demonstrated electrical and/or mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to maintain and adjust equipment to maximize production and minimize downtime.
- Ability to operate loaders, forklifts, manlifts, and other mobile equipment.
- Ability to use HMI interfaces to monitor operations and make necessary adjustments.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and following established safety procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional attitude and the ability to work well with others.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
