Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the general direction of the Director or Manager, coordinates and provides patient care and assumes individual responsibility and accountability for the provision of nursing care.
Nursing care is provided in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, applicable state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice, and the generic and unit structure standards.
The Registered Nurse in department 700 Surgery provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
The RNFA will perform in the role of Surgical First Assistant under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
The First Assistant will maintain or actively work towards certification and will stay current on all new practices and procedures of the role through continuing education.
This position will be executed in addition to the current facility description of OR Registered Nurse.
First Assistants are expected to be able to perform proficiently in the first scrub and assistant position in at least four or more of the following specialties:
Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular, Plastic and Reconstructive, Gynecology, ENT and General Surgery.
First Assistant will work within the scope of practice for the non-MD First Assistant set forth by the American Operating Nurses Association and by OPRMC.
