What You'll Do

As a Correctional Dental Assistant, you'll assist the dentist in providing routine and emergency dental care within a CDOC clinical setting.

Responsibilities may include:

Provide chairside assistance during general dentistry procedures
Prepare treatment areas, instruments, and materials for dental procedures
Obtain digital dental X-rays
Set up and assist with restorative procedures
Select and pass instruments during treatment
Sterilize dental instruments and equipment
Maintain proper infection-control practices
Follow radiation safety and exposure-control procedures
Properly handle and dispose of biohazardous and medically contaminated waste
Assist with dental clinic scheduling and daily operations
Maintain appropriate tool, chemical, and supply controls
Educate patients on preventive dental care and oral health
Maintain accurate clinical documentation
Work collaboratively with the dentist and CDOC healthcare team

If you've never worked in corrections before, don't automatically count yourself out. Strong general dentistry, chairside assisting, infection control, X-ray, and patient-care experience can translate well into the correctional healthcare setting.
