The Pre-Op/PACU Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Preoperative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit departments within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This role ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, high-quality patient care across the perioperative continuum—from patient admission through discharge—in compliance with CMS Conditions for Coverage and applicable accrediting bodies, including AAAHC.
The Pre-Op/PACU Manager oversees all clinical staff within the Pre-Op and PACU areas and collaborates closely with the DON and departmental leaders to optimize patient throughout, surgical readiness, anesthesia recovery, and discharge efficiency. Serving as the primary point of coordination among surgeons, anesthesia providers, clinical teams, and administrative leadership, this position ensures effective communication, operational alignment, and seamless transitions of care.
The role fosters a culture of accountability, teamwork, service excellence, and continuous performance improvement throughout the perioperative patient experience.
Leadership & Management

Supervise PreOp and PACU nursing staff including scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, and training

Ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet patient volume and acuity

Facilitate effective communication among surgical team members, patients, and families

Participate in management meetings, strategic planning, and policy development
Clinical Oversight

Oversee nursing assessments, interventions, and documentation to ensure compliance with standards of care

Collaborate with anesthesiologists and surgeons to ensure safe and efficient patient flow

Ensure adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols

Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practices in perioperative nursing
Quality & Compliance

Monitor patient outcomes, incidents, and quality metrics; implement performance improvement initiatives as needed

Ensure compliance with CMS, AAAHC, OSHA, HIPAA, and state regulations

Maintain accurate records and participate in audits and inspections
