Job Summary and Qualifications
The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.
What you will do in this role:
Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.
Manages the quality of care by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery.
Demonstrates necessary practical, technical, or specialized skills required for the perioperative nurse, in accordance with AORN and other regulatory standards of practice.
Assumes responsibility for preparation of surgical suite, including OR schedule verification, overseeing area safety and regulatory compliance, instrument and equipment setup, accuracy and completeness of medical charts, and readiness of medicines and other supplies.
Assumes responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, surgical site verification, and patient positioning and/or draping.
Participates in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy.
Ensures adherence to quality and safety regulations during the intra-operative process, including sterile techniques, accurate documentation of supply and equipment counts, and proper care and handling of tissues, implants, specimens, and cultures.
Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications, and escalates care concerns appropriately.
Seeks opportunities to continue to grow professionally through learning through HCA programs, classes, and offerings, and through outside learning, research, and school. Shares new knowledge with peers and, when appropriate, utilizes new evidence-based knowledge to drive process improvement.
Functions as a good steward of financial resources by effectively managing supplies, equipment, length of stay, and throughput.
