POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Cardiovascular services/Designee and
supervising provider. Registered nurses, physician assistants and/or advance practice nurse practitioners are
eligible for this position. The Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that patient centered
care in the ambulatory and inpatient settings for patients with cardiac electronic devices, pacemakers,
cardiac defibrillators, Loop recorders and holter monitors for the diagnosis and treatment of the cardiac
arrhythmias. Will collaborate with the Cardiologists, Electrophysiologist, Advanced Practitioners, cardiac device
technologist and other members of the patient care team to achieve optimal clinical outcomes. The RN
Coordinator will support patients with remote monitoring, device implantation and follow ups, and education.
RN will also provide inpatient device support.
Responsibilities include:
• The RN enrolls, interrogates and programs patients with cardiac electronic devices in the in-patient and
out-patient setting.
• Accurately identifies malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations and follows appropriate
protocols. Makes programming changes in collaboration with providers.
• The RN follows the nursing process in assessing symptomatic patients and providing follow-through as
needed. Giving instructions, makes follow-up appointments or taking patients to the ED.
• Proficient in identifying cardiac rhythms, pacemaker electrograms and operating programmers.
• Performs incision/wound assessments on new device patients. Removes stiches/staples as appropriate.
• Triages patients for remote alert notifications.
• Maintains programs and documents data in device management systems. Ensuring the various
programs are completed timely and accurately.
• Real-time oversight of patients, to track quality metrics and help improve quality.
• The RN responds to urgent/emergent clinical situations when interrogating patients in-clinic
• Presentations to physicians and other stakeholders regarding quality of programs.
• Quality projects, in collaboration with the CV Admin team.
• The RN Conducts evaluation of patients who are being worked-up for SICD implant to assess their
candidacy.
• Appropriately coordinate any additional testing and work-up needed prior to implant.
• Performs assessment of patients with CID to establish and evaluate thresholds, arrhythmias, histograms
and implement any changes and evaluate individualized care needed in outpatient setting
• Provides timely and appropriate clinical advice and interventions through direct patient contact as well
as telephone contact.
• Arranges all appropriate medical therapy and testing under the guidance of MD/APPs.
• Reviews and evaluates medication according to their abnormal rhythm episodes and notifies the
MD/APP of abnormalities.
• Appropriately documents findings and interventions in the patient's medical record.
• Participate in assessment of CID replacement or device malfunctions including final testing/assessment
prior to procedure.
• Ensure the patient’s home monitor is functioning and able to provide egms and data for documentation
to providers. Ensure patient understands if there is any change in their location that we are notified.
Ensure that the patient understands to call us with any new arrhythmias, shocks, change in the
appearance of their site.
• Other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Registered Nurse state of New Hampshire or valid compact license
- 3-7 years related experience
- Critical care experience preferred
