The JTS is part of the Defense Health Agency (DHA), Health Care Administration Health Care Operations Division. The JTS is dedicated to performance improvement in the care of combat wounded via data collection, performance improvement and development of data driven clinical practice guidelines. The use of the data by doctors, nurses, analysts, and researchers is changing trauma medicine and combat casualty care and improving outcomes for the severely wounded warrior. Thus, collection and analysis of patient health data is mission critical. The vehicle for collecting this data is the Department of Defense Trauma Registry (DoDTR). Within the Defense Health Agency (DHA), the JTS was established to serve as the reference body for trauma care, establish standards of care, coordinate the translation of research, and incorporate lessons learned from education and training partnerships in order to continually improve combat casualty care across the continuum of care.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Technical Writer: $65,000 - $80,000
Pay commensurate with experience.

Technical Writer Responsibilities Include:
Prepare documents to include but are not limited to:
Report Data and scientific findings in appropriate table and text formats for presentation in logical fashion.
Review and edit draft reports and other documents for organization, clarity, use of correct terminology and scientific standards.
Print study documents for the study team.
Manage the development and review of large documents within multiple review cycles within short deadlines.
Manage organization of retention of study documentation including electronic raw data.
Attend and participate in study and project meetings.
Perform quality control when reviewing study documentation during compilation of report template and contents.
Maintain and update project time tracking in electronic database.
The Contractor shall edit and format contributed or solicited article manuscripts, writing additional information or rewriting portions of the manuscript, ensuring that it reflects logical, sequential organization, contains correct grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation and conforms to publication style and format, but retaining, to the maximum degree possible, the author’s unique writing style and methods of expression.
The Contractor shall collaborate with customers to develop data presentation approaches and dashboards for specific manuscripts and/or technical reports based upon data pulled from the DoDTR.
The Contractor shall prepare, review/edit technical reports for content/language. All deliverables shall be produced both electronically and on hard copy using software compatible with current USAMITC standards as specified by the COR
Provide administrative coordination and office management support to program leadership and staff.
Coordinate meetings, working groups, and events including:
Preparing agendas
Recording meeting minutes
Tracking action items
Coordinating follow-up actions
Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and assist with development of program communications such as newsletters, announcements, and internal messaging.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Technical Writer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
Bachelor’s Degree required scientific writing and editing experience.
The Contractor shall plan and implement document draft, review and revision cycles for multiple concurrent projects, including User Guides and Standard Operating Procedures. Expert knowledge of the document formats and requirements of the medical/IT arena to be able to provide writing, assistance, and “ghost writing” services to JTS Chief, SMEs, and technical personnel (The technical writer is not responsible for developing the content of the documentation, nor for its technical accuracy, but helps those with specialized knowledge to communicate that knowledge in writing. Includes drafting and editing and rewriting and reformatting of draft documents possibly prepared by others.) Technical writing services in this context may additionally include providing meeting scribe services. Writing assignments may include both human and canine trauma topics
