Clinical Reviewer – Emergency Department
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department (ED) nurse to join our team as a Clinical Reviewer II In this role, you will support ED clinical documentation integrity through real-time chart reviews, collaboration with providers, and participation in quality and safety initiatives. Your expertise will help ensure documentation accurately reflects patient acuity, supports compliant coding, and meets all regulatory standards. This position is ideal for a seasoned ED clinician who is passionate about documentation quality, regulatory compliance, and driving improvements in patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Documentation Review & Clinical Collaboration
- Conduct concurrent and retrospective chart audits for ED encounters.
- Collaborate with ED physicians, APPs, and nursing staff to clarify documentation and ensure EHR alignment.
- Provide real-time feedback and education on documentation best practices, quality measures, and regulatory updates.
- Partner with coding and HIM teams to ensure accurate DRG assignment and appropriate capture of severity of illness and risk of mortality.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Monitor and report on ED-specific quality indicators (e.g., sepsis compliance, core measures, throughput).
- Participate in ED huddles, multidisciplinary committees, and process improvement initiatives.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of ED regulatory requirements (CMS, EMTALA, Joint Commission).
- Adhere to HIPAA and organizational confidentiality standards.
EHR & Data Utilization
- Use EHR dashboards and reporting tools to track documentation trends and outcomes.
- Support optimization of ED-specific EHR templates and clinical decision support tools.
Education & Professional Development
- Educate providers and staff on documentation standards and quality expectations.
- Participate in CDI, coding, quality, and regulatory education sessions.
- Complete a minimum of 8 CEUs annually in CDI, quality, or regulatory-related topics.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Active RN license in Delaware or compact state
- Minimum of 3 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience
- Clinical Documentation Certification (CCDS) required within 1 year of eligibility
- Strong understanding of ED operations, clinical workflows, and regulatory compliance
Preferred
- Coding or CDI experience
- Experience with EHR documentation tools and reporting dashboards

Annual Compensation Range $85,862.40 - $137,384.00This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
